Game 1: Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings vs. Chicago Cougars


In a hard-fought battle at the 2023 USPHL Detroit Showcase, the Chicago Cougars clashed with the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings in a nail-biting contest that left fans on the edge of their seats. The Riverkings managed to secure a 4-3 victory, showcasing their resilience and offensive prowess.


The Riverkings set the tone early, with Bryce Cooper netting two goals in the first period. Despite facing a 2-0 deficit, the Cougars remained determined. Alexander Musyakevych and Liam Norton responded with goals for Chicago, narrowing the gap to 4-3.

The Cougars peppered the Riverkings' netminder, Ian Tumm, with shots in the third period, but he stood tall to secure the win. The Cougars' goaltender, Sam Burcal, faced a barrage of shots and made several crucial saves to keep his team in the game.


The final minutes of the game were marked by a Chicago timeout and a goaltender change, but the Riverkings managed to hold on for the 4-3 victory. The physicality, skillful plays, and last-minute drama made this game a memorable showcase of USPHL talent.


Game 2: Chicago Cougars vs. Columbus Mavericks


The Chicago Cougars continued their campaign at the 2023 USPHL Detroit Showcase with a commanding 3-1 victory over the Columbus Mavericks, displaying their offensive prowess and strong team play.

Cooper Brackett opened the scoring for the Cougars in the first period, giving them a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks responded with a goal from Brandon Kididis to even the score at 1-1. The first period set the stage for an intense matchup.


The second period belonged to the Cougars, as Nikolay Ouriashev netted two goals, assisted by Gerdas Paulauskas and Connor Schuckmann. The Cougars dominated in shots on goal and capitalized on power-play opportunities to take control of the game.


The physicality continued in the second game, with penalties on both sides, including elbowing, roughing, and a major penalty for boarding. The Cougars' goaltender, Ty Jones, had a stellar performance, making crucial saves to secure the win.

In the third game of the 2023 USPHL Detroit Showcase, the Chicago Cougars put on a goal-scoring clinic against the Cincinnati Cyclones, securing a dominant 7-1 victory.

The Cougars wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Alexander Musyakevych and Arthur Pawlik finding the back of the net in the first period, giving Chicago a 2-0 lead. The offensive onslaught continued in the second period, with Liam Norton, Ryan Johnson, and Ben Moak extending the lead to 6-0.


Cincinnati responded with a power-play goal from Emmitt Guest in the third period, but it was too little too late to mount a comeback. Gerdas Paulauskas added one more for the Cougars, sealing the 7-1 win.


The game was marked by penalties, including a major penalty for contact to the head and unsportsmanlike conduct. The Cougars' goaltender, David Jilek, showcased his skills with a solid performance between the pipes.

In the final game of the 2023 USPHL Detroit Showcase, the Chicago Cougars faced a formidable opponent in the Metro Jets, resulting in a challenging match that ended with a score of 9-1 in favor of the Jets.


The Metro Jets dominated from the start, establishing a 3-0 lead in the first period. Robert Vanderdonck, Tyler Bautko, and Ethan Hellman each contributed goals, showcasing the Jets' offensive prowess.

The second period saw an even more commanding performance by the Metro Jets, adding four more goals to their tally. Ugo Lollier, Alex Bedenko (power play), and Devon Mastay extended the lead, putting the game out of reach for the Chicago Cougars.


In the third period, the Chicago Cougars managed to break through the Jets' defense, with Arthur Pawlik scoring a goal assisted by Kevin Hanly and TJ Haas. However, the Metro Jets responded with two additional goals from Tyler Husted and Tyler Bautko, securing their decisive victory.


The game was marked by penalties on both sides, with the Metro Jets capitalizing on a power play opportunity. The goaltenders, Ty Jones for the Chicago Cougars and Carson MacKenzie for the Metro Jets, faced intense pressure throughout the game.
