BENSENVILLE, Ill.- In a dominant display of skill and teamwork, the Chicago Cougars Elite unit skated to an impressive 8-0 victory over divisional rivals, the Decatur Blaze, at The Edge Ice Arena on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
The Cougars wasted no time making their presence felt, with Lukas Kurowski scoring a short-handed goal at 10:37 in the first period. The Blaze faced penalty trouble, with James Eggleston and Rocco Bifano serving penalties. Eli Wallichs netted another shorty on the penalty kill, extending the lead to 2-0 at 18:10.
The Cougars turned up the heat in the second period, capitalizing on power plays. Kurowski netted his second goal, followed by Jakub Potoczny, Kurowski again for a hat trick, Jeffrey Schroeder, and Gabe Tourtillott, ending the period with a commanding 7-0 lead.
Caleb Lind extended the lead to 8-0 just 54 seconds into the third period. Despite penalties on both sides, the score remained unchanged, solidifying the Cougars' shutout victory.
Lukas Kurowski was the star of the night, securing a hat trick, while goaltender Filip Kaczmarczyk earned a well-deserved shutout with eight saves.
