OAK FOREST, Il. - As the Chicago Cougars prepare to lace up their skates for their 10th season in the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL), the buzz around the team is unmistakable. With a rich history and a clear goal in mind, the Cougars are ready to make their mark on the league once again. Under the steady leadership of General Manager and Head Coach Josh Dallmann, along with the fresh perspective of new Assistant Coach Anthony Rohde, the team is entering this milestone season with a renewed sense of purpose.
“We have the talent and the work ethic to make some noise in the USPHL this season,” Dallmann said, reflecting the team’s confidence as they prepare for the upcoming games.
Strength Between the Pipes
A solid foundation always starts with goaltending, and the Cougars have a strong tandem in net. The ’06 duo of Cameron Boville and Sam Burcal return after a season of valuable experience. Last year, both goalies showed flashes of brilliance, and Coach Dallmann is banking on them to step up even more this season.
“Our goaltending situation is strong,” Dallmann emphasized. “Cameron and Sam are crucial to our defensive efforts, and we’re excited to see how they continue to develop.”
Defensive Core: Experience and Leadership
Anchoring the defensive corps are returning ’05 defensemen Trey Henderson and Aiden Middendorf. Both players bring stability, leadership, and grit to the blue line. Henderson’s physical play combined with Middendorf’s smart positioning and puck movement will be vital in keeping opponents off the scoreboard.
“They give us a solid foundation on defense,” said Dallmann. “Their experience is key as we bring younger players into the lineup.”
Offensive Firepower with a Blend of Youth and Veterans
Up front, the offense will be led by third-year forward Ben Moak, who is returning from an injury-shortened season. In just 20 games last year, Moak recorded 10 points, and with a clean bill of health, he is expected to be a pivotal piece of the Cougars' attack.
“Having Ben back at 100 percent is huge for us,” Dallmann noted. “He’s a proven scorer, and we’ll lean on him to lead the charge offensively.”
The Cougars are also welcoming Owen Plumert, an ’05 forward, from the Dells Ducks who comes in with 22 points from 42 USPHL Premier games and adds further depth to an already promising group.
“We’re thrilled with the mix of returning players and new additions,” said Dallmann. “Our forward group has the potential to be dynamic.”
Building Chemistry, Chasing Championships
With a focus on daily improvement, Coach Dallmann and Rohde are honing team chemistry as they look to make a deep postseason run. The blend of veteran leadership, exciting young talent, and a solid defensive backbone gives the Cougars a well-rounded roster capable of competing for a USPHL championship.
“Our goal is simple: improve every day and compete for a championship,” Dallmann stated. “The potential is there, and it’s up to us to make it happen.”
Season Opener: Rivalry Renewed
